Lakes of Trentino index
Trentino > Lakes of Trentino
There
are 297 Alpine Lakes in the Trentino region and represent an important
reality of the nature parks in the province. Taken together, the lakes in
Trentino cover an area of over 35 square kilometers out of 6200 of the whole province.
Their
origins are almost all related to glacial excavation with some exceptions such
as Lake Molveno, the origin of which is due to the moraine dam caused by a
mammoth landslide.
Most
of the lakes, over 250, are located at altitudes of over 1,500 meters, the
total area is quite limited, as can be imagined, and amounts to about 3 square
kilometers. Almost all of these lakes are a stone's throw from the peaks of the
Dolomites, some, especially in the northern sector, can be found at an altitude
of 3200 meters.
