The western part of the Brenta Group offers
numerous hiking opportunities of varying difficulties. One of the simplest and
at the same time spectacular hikes is the crossing from the Valley
Vallesinella to the Brenta Valley, passing through the Tuckett, Brentei and
Casinei refuges. Arrival at the
Grostè Pass by cable car. ( c.11 euros one way). A convenient shuttle service
links the Vallesinella refuge to Madonna di Campiglio and to the Campo Carlo Magno Pass (see timetable).
The excursion starts from the hotel by car
to the Campo Carlo Magno Pass,( 75 mins.c.) where you can park next to the
cable car departure. Off the cable car and onto an easy panoramic trail ( all
ups and downs) that runs between large boulders, skirting the west of the
Vallesinella gendarme and the lower Castelletto
to the charming Tuckett refuge, m.2272, built on a rock in front of the
Massari Peak, at the foot of the Tuckett
glacier.
From here downhill for 200 mts. and westward along trail 328, passing through the Sella
del Fridolin or Casinei Pass, m.2143, to a crossroad between trails 328 and
318. Here, it's possible and highly recommended , to detour left, to the
Brentei refuge, m.2182 ( 45 minutes ) for a well-deserved break and a visit to
the picturesque church with
breathtakingly beautiful views of the Bocca di Brenta, For the return hike
follow the same trail 318 back, the first part near the Galleria Bogani is
equipped ( easy).
An hour 's walk leads to the tranquil and scenic Casinei
refuge, m.1850. From here the shortest way to reach the Vallesinella refuge and
the shuttle service to the Campo Carlo Magno Pass, is trail 317: steep but
quite easy. An interesting alternative to reach the Vallesinella refuge is to
take trail 317b to the waterfalls near Malga Vallesinella di Sopra and from
here along the sentiero delle cascate ( waterfall trail).
