Castel Toblino and Santa Massenza Lake
Trentino > Lakes of Trentino
Magnificent lake located in the Valle
dei Laghi, about 20 km from Trento, in the Sarche plain. Lake Toblino
forms a single basin with Lake Santa Massenza and is surrounded by Monte
Casale, the spurs of Mount Gazza-Paganella in the north and Mount Bondone in
the south. Lake Toblino originates from erosions and debris that the
Sarca river transported into the valley for centuries. In the 16th
century, the toblino castle was converted into the summer residence of
prince-bishop Madruzzo. From the 50's, along with Lake Santa Massenza, lake
toblino was affected by the works of the great Sarca – Molveno deviation: a
forced water duct through Mount Gazza
fuels the large hydroelectric power station of Santa Massenza, in consequence,
its waters have suffered a drastic reduction of temperature. The surrounding area
is famous for the production of grappa.
Of particular interest is the river Sarca
that flows along the gorges towards Ponte Arche: a real canyon. Another
recommended excursion, in addition to the walk along the banks of the lake, is
the walk through the woods up to the nearby village of Ranzo. For climbing
enthusiasts :the equipped Rino Pisetta climb with a vertical drop of about 650
meters.
" Toblino is one of the most
attractive backgrounds imaginable: it's impossible to find a more beautiful and
more scenic decoration than this ..."
