Excursion to the 12
Apostoli Refuge, upper Val d'Agola: challenging,
but beautiful hike that leads to the foot of
the Prato Fiorito hanging glacier.
By car to Stenico and
from here to to the car park in Val
d'Algone , near Malga Movlina,
m.1786 (€ 5 per car), 30 Km from Molveno. From the car park along trail 354 up
to the Gotro Pass and Lake Asciutto ( literally translated means the dry lake).
Here onto trail 307 that climbs to the Nardis Plain along a spur known as the
"Scala Santa", (holy ladder). This part is equipped to facilitates
the climb. After the Scala Santa, the path becomes easier and less steep. After
a two and a half hour hike you reach the 12 Apostoli Refuge where you can enjoy a well-earned stop
and,perhaps, a hearty meal.
For those who do not suffer from vertigo, a visit
to the church carved from the rock is a must. The excursion continues with a 15
minute climb to the 12 Apostoli Pass, m.2579. Here, after stopping to admire the majestic peaks of Cima D'agola
and Cima Ambiez, the trail winds to the
right onto trail 341 and down the long and challenging descent through
the wild Val di Sacco (awesome views of
the peaks of the lower and upper Padaola, Vallon and Finestra) to the Baita Cacciatori and then
from here (continuing on trail 341) to the car park.
