The five Corvo
Lakes are located at the top of the Val di Sole, Western Trentino,
at an altitude of between 2,462 and 2,630 meters above sea level. The smallest
lake measures 2,000 square meters while the largest measures 60,000 square
meters. They are enclosed between the mountain ranges of Sass Fora and
Collecchio in the east and by the peaks of Mount Chiesa (Kirchberg) in the
north. Starting from the parking area, Piazzola di Rabbi,
located just above the village of Cavallar in Val di Rabbi, the hike
begins on the forest road and then onto
a path that climbs up a steep slope through a larch forest. (CAI-SAT n. 108
trail, Lago corvo valley).
A 2¾ hr hike leads to the homonymous refuge. (M.2425). From here
onto trail 145 (in the direction for Passo Collecchio), for just over an hour,
to the first two lakes that can be seen on the slopes of Sass Fora. The border
of the 2 provinces: Trento and Bolzano, passes between these 2 lakes. All the
lakes in this area are part of the Stelvio National Park. The following images
only partially express the intense emotions that these landscapes evoke in the
minds of those who love unpolluted places.
